Dog training at Aloha Academy

Emily Avanessian is a professional dog trainer from Southern California with nearly 10 years of experience working in a variety of environments, from teaching group classes at a major pet store, to running the training program at a daycare facility. She received her CPDT-KA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers in March 2022 and has a passion for helping fearful dogs find their confidence.
Emily is firmly committed to utilizing modern, ethical training methods backed by peer-reviewed research. In order to honor that commitment, Emily spends much of her time continuing her education through reading books and scientific studies, attending online seminars, and conferring with colleagues about difficult or interesting cases. She’s motivated by a strong desire to improve welfare on both ends of the leash, make education more accessible, and combat harmful misinformation.

As for the future of her career, Emily hopes to soon embark on the journey of becoming a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT).

Perfect for dogs of all ages, our beginner course is designed to introduce your dog to basic obedience cues, as well as broader concepts to help improve focus and lay a foundation for future, more complex behaviors. Our goal with this course is for your dog to respond reliably at home, improve your relationship with each other, and to expand your knowledge and skills as a dog guardian. Day Academy takes place 2 different days during the week, over the course of 4 weeks.

Day Academy - Intermediate

Take your dog’s training to the next level! Aloha’s intermediate program will build upon the skills established in our beginner course, but if your dog has learned their basic skills elsewhere, don’t worry! This course is open to all dogs who meet the requirements. This curriculum focuses on adding distance and duration to basic obedience cues and introduces more challenging behaviors, such as the beginnings of heel. The goal of this course is to strengthen your dog’s reliability at home and improve their ability to respond in more challenging environments. Day Academy takes place 2 different days during the week, over the course of 4 weeks.

Day Academy - Advanced

$675 / 4 week session

Need a real challenge for your dog? This training program focuses on the final steps in the proofing process: adding distractions and generalizing behaviors. Your dog will enjoy off-site field trips to pet friendly locations such as major retail stores and local nature parks, where they’ll be able to put their skills to the test in challenging, real-world environments. This course strives to build your dog’s confidence and reliability in highly distracting environments. Day Academy takes place 2 different days during the week, over the course of 4 weeks.

Lodge & Learn

$2,250 to $2,350

Give your dog a vacation-like getaway at Aloha Academy! Your dog receives lessons 5 days a week for 4 weeks, while they remain overnight with us. We take full rein for a while so we can return your dog more confident & with a wider skillset! This course aims to spend plenty of time generalizing cues in various environments to set them up for success while working in the real world! Monday through Friday, dogs spend their day learning through multiple individual lessons, participate in small or large group play, as well as having plenty of rest & relaxation breaks. To increase their comfort at our facility, enrolled dogs are required to attend 4 sessions of group play leading up to lodge and learn. Those already attending group play do not require prior sessions. Enrollment in this course requires a 50% deposit prior to the start date.

Learn & Play

$20 / 15 minutes or $35 / 30 minutes

Does your dog have some difficulties in daycare, or need some extra help to feel comfortable? Are you curious about training but not ready to commit to a full course just yet? Aloha Academy’s Learn ‘n Play is the perfect way to throw in some training to your pup’s daycare package. Available as a 15 or 30 minute add-on, this service allows our trainer to visit your dog during group play and engage them in a brief training session without pulling them out of the fun. What’s more, the 30-minute Learn ‘n Play add-on doubles as a play assessment! At the end of the day, our trainer will give you her recommendation for which club best suits your dog (Fitness or Fetch), and provide some insight into your dog’s experience in daycare.
